During Apple’s last call on financial earnings, Apple revealed it had gained 165 million subscribers in the past year. Subscribers are counted toward all consumer services Apple offers, including iCloud, Music, Arcade, and Apple TV+. Apple CFO and Senior VP Luca Maestri says the growth was global.
We set quarterly records for December in every geographic segment […] and then, as I said before, a record for iCloud, for music, for video, for advertising [and] pay devices. So we did…better than we expected at the start of the quarter.” – Luca Maestri, Apple CFO and Senior VP
Apple now has 785 million paying subscribers, and the company has added 165 million in the past 12 months.

During the same conversation, when asked about Apple’s involvement in the metaverse, Tim Cook replied that Apple is interested and has already invested in its commitment to AR. However, he did not use the word “metaverse” in his answer. “We are an innovation company,” said Cook. “we have over 14,000 AR apps in the App Store”,.
Cook noted that Apple sees great potential in the metaverse space and that the company is “investing accordingly.” Apple has long expressed an interest in AR since the addition of LiDAR hardware to the iPhone 12 Pro and later iPad Pro models.
